Being Holy

Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV) 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

A living sacrifice is one that takes up his cross and follows the Lord into, and through, whatever and wherever the Lord calls. “Where He leads me, I will follow,” is the song that the true believer sings in the depths of his soul.

There is such a desire to please the Lord and fulfill His will in the believer’s life that there is no room for sin. Such a disciple is not just positionally holy by the blood of the Lamb, but is holy in practice as he is empowered by the Holy Spirit.

This is “reasonable service” and not some extraordinary thing that only a few “chosen and called” ones are expected to live. It is effortless and joyful living in the spirit and not after the flesh.

No matter how loud the world cries, no matter how powerfully the world draws, no matter what the situation or circumstance, the disciple of Christ lives a life that renders a sweet odor of sacrifice to the Lord. Such a one is never conformed to this world but is transformed by the renewing of his mind.

This renewal is accomplished by the daily washing with the water of the Word of God and the application of it to daily affairs. The wisdom of God is seen and experienced as the follower of Christ proves, by experience, “that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

It has been said, “The proof is in the pudding,” meaning that, the proof is in the living out by experience the Word of God. His faithfulness is found to be true and sure at all times. His Word stands incorruptible in the face of every, and any, challenge.

A living sacrifice finds that he has sacrificed nothing but that which binds, hinders and restricts life, and life more abundant.
