Matthew 1:18 (NKJV) Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
The only acceptable, intelligent, reason for Christmas is to celebrate the one time event that took place by a sovereign act of God. A virgin conceived. The Divine Seed was implanted in the womb of a young virgin lady. Any other reason is frivolous.
Luke 1:31 (NKJV) And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS.
How in the world can this be?, is a question asked by the incredulous. The natural, unregenerate mind, quickly attempts to naturalize the miraculous conception. False religions are birthed, mythological stories are penned, and the wonder of the event is totally missed.
Luke 1:35 (NKJV) And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
You may, just like Joseph, and many others, wonder how this could be. Let me assure you, this is a non-physical, supernatural work of the Holy Spirit of God.
Matthew 1:20 (NKJV) But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, . . do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
Don’t think for a moment that this was a physical union. This was a supernatural overshadowing by the Holy Spirit of the Living God. Man has a propensity to try to explain everything withing the confines of his limited understanding of natural law.
Unfortunately, his natural inability to grasp supernatural, spirit realm, truth hides the glorious truth: “the power of the Highest” overshadowed the virgin and the conception was complete.
Christmas is a time to marvel at the miraculous.
Christmas is all about the gift of Christ Jesus, God’s Only Begotten Son.
