You and I are going to have many opportunities to be slighted, maligned, slandered, wounded, and abused. That is just the way life is. People being who they are, being born in sin (don’t get mad at me, that’s what the Bible says), just don’t speak, or act, like they should.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23 (NKJV)
As Christians, we have the wonderful opportunity to act like Jesus, as He was being crucified, and Stephen, as he was stoned to death. They both said, “Forgive them, Father, they don’t know what they are doing.” Yes, it’s true! Lost humanity does not know what they are doing.
As for you, you thought evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring about that many people should be kept alive, as they are this day. Genesis 50:20 (AMP)
The mature Christian comes to a place where, no matter what comes against him, he is able to see the blindness and brokenness of those who persecute, or attack, him, and can forgive as Christ and Stephen forgave. This is especially possible when it is understood that forgiving is resting the case before the Righteous Judge and that everything meant for evil toward us will be turned for good.
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
