Spirit Filled ???
This is a most interesting hour. Many who call themselves “Spirit filled” Christians deny the most basic and elementary teachings of Scripture as concerns the graces (gifts) of the Spirit of God. They maintain that “tongues aren’t for everyone” or that “tongues don’t belong in a church gathering – because we don’t want to offend anyone.” This kind of teaching is typical of Satan’s deceits in that it gives great pride to those who have “the gift” and also reveals Satan’s fear of tongues – the least of the gifts – in it’s power to arrest the attention of the unbeliever and to strengthen the believer.
Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not:… 1 Corinthians 14:22
He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; . . . 1 Corinthians 14:4 (KJV)
Doesn’t it seem a bit odd to think that Jesus would command all of his followers to receive the promise of the Father and then change His mind as it relates to the Church of today. Would He Who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, give the early Church power and authority and then with-hold that same power and authority from the believer of today? That God has become a “respecter of persons” or has now decided that there is a “difference” so that one can be more, or have more, than another is inconceivable to me! (Act 1:4,5,8; Luk 24:49; Joh 7:37-39) (Act 10:34; 15:8-9)
For God shows no partiality (undue favor or unfairness; with Him one man is not different from another). Romans 2:11 (AMP)
Do Not Forbid
Every Bible translation I have read says basically the same thing:
“DO NOT FORBID OR HINDER speaking in (unknown) TONGUES.” 1 Corinthians 14:39 (AMP)
That seems fairly clear to me. How about you?
How can one build themselves up if they do not allow themselves to do what is required to accomplish the task. The book of Jude says,
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,” Jude 1:20 (KJV)
To me it is fairly obvious that we need the power of God more than ever before. These are days of gross darkness and it is only in the supernatural strength of Jesus Christ (The Anointed One) and His anointing that we will run the race, reach the mark, and win the crown promised the overcomer. (Jam 1:12; 1 Pet 5:4; Rev. 2:10; Rev. 3:11; )
. . . Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Zechariah 4:6 (KJV)
Let this be a time of setting aside the traditions of men and the leaven of religious form without power. Let this be a time of seeking the Lord and of receiving ALL that He shed His blood and died to purchase for us.
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Timothy 3:5 (KJV)
Guard and keep yourselves in the love of God …
Don’t lose heart or grow faint. God knew these days would come. We were forewarned so that we would not be surprised nor alarmed:
They (the Apostles) told you beforehand, In the last days (in the end time) there will be scoffers – who seek to gratify their own unholy desires – following after their own ungodly passions. Jude 1:18 (AMP)
It is these who are (agitators) setting up distinctions and causing divisions; merely sensual (creatures) – carnal, worldly-minded people – devoid of the (Holy) Spirit and destitute of any higher spiritual life. Jude 1:19 (AMP)
But you, beloved, build yourselves up (founded) on your most holy faith – make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher – praying in the Holy Spirit; (Jude 1:20 (AMP) (1Co 14:4; Act 1:4; 8:14-17; 10:44-47; 19:2-6)
Guard and keep yourselves in the love of God; expect and patiently wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah, (which will bring you) unto life eternal. Jude 1:21 (AMP)
“Guard and keep yourselves” –
“Building yourselves up” –
“Praying in the Holy Ghost”
