Commitment is something this society seems to have lost. Whether committing oneself to marriage, to the local church, to preserving our free America, or committing to raise the children created by our intimacies is now foreign to way too many.
Abortion or desertion is the answer for “unwanted” pregnancies. The rights of the child are set aside for the selfish desires of the, should be, parent.
Welfare and entitlements are demanded rather than committing to go to work and earn a living. Lazy self pampering has replaced energetic service centered productive endeavor.
Rather than commit to building the local church with giving of resources and volunteerism, the only commitment is to receive whatever benefit one can derive from the experience of a, hopefully, short worship service or the warm fuzzy feeling from giving out food or clothing to the street people.
It seems that only the LGBTQ community is really interested in the institution of “marriage.” Most heterosexuals are shunning the commitment of marriage between one man and one woman in favor of “a relationship.” Committing to someone “until death do us part” seems to be a strange concept. Entering into a marriage relationship with the understanding that it is a life long commitment sanctioned by God flies in the face of liberal, self-gratifying thought.
I thank God that I was raised in an era before society began to unravel. I thank God that I met the girl of my dreams when I was 16. I thank God that four years later, after my military service and her graduating nurses school, that we made a commitment for life to love, honor, and cherish one another. I thank God that we are celebrating our 54th Wedding Anniversary today!
I also thank God that we have been able to help others develop meaningful, lasting marriage relationships in the midst of a morally bankrupt society. I thank God that not all Americans have been swept into the destructive spiral of relativistic thinking.
I thank God that my wife and I are celebrating our years together and looking forward to many more.
I thank God that, through Christ Jesus, He is allowing us to preach the gospel together and work as ministers of reconciliation.
I thank God that He has surrounded us with others of like mind that are changing the world around them one soul at a time.
God is Good! All the time! We are committed to each other, to Him, and to those He has brought into our lives.
Remember. God is committed to you.
Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] Hebrews 13:5 (AMP)
