We, as Christians, are called to live after the Spirit and not after the flesh. If we develop the disciplines of Christ Jesus (that’s what disciple means) then we will do what pleases Him rather than what pleases self.
When I joined the Army I laid down my plans and my identity and became a soldier. I then became focused on the mission given to me by the Commander in Chief of the United States of America.
When you and I voluntarily received Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are expected to focus on the mission given to us by our Commander in Chief, Jesus the Anointed One of God. Gratifying ourselves is no longer our goal.
The satisfaction you derive from faithfully serving Him brings righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Your every need will be supplied and nothing shall be denied.
“No one goes to war at their own expense.” Your “God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
