Double

For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them. Isaiah 61:7 (KJV)

To be without Christ Jesus in your heart and life, without receiving the gift of God’s love, His only begotten Son, a person lives with a sense of shame, guilt, and confusion about where they come from.

It’s as though there is a God shaped vacuum within each individual that cries out to know where they come from, what their purpose is in life, and where they are going. This results in a life of searching inquiry that is, many times, contrary to God, His ways and will. That leaves one outside the covenant blessings of God and leaves one living under the curse of the original fall of man.

God, foreknowing the rebellious fall of man, had a plan in place to redeem His lost creation even before the creation itself.

[Jesus] Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 1 Peter 1:20 (KJV)

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Revelation 13:8 (KJV)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (KJV)

Jesus was the sacrificial “Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” to bring atonement between God and man. Only He could satisfy the demands of a just God in order to open the door of return to sinful man.

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Hebrews 9:28 (KJV)

1  For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
2  For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
3  But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
4  For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
5  Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
6  In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
7  Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
8  Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
9  Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
10  By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:1-10 (KJV)

Everyone who receives Jesus the Christ as Lord and Savior is translated out of darkness into His marvelous light. Old things pass away and all things become new. A new creature is born into the covenant family of God.

It’s not what we are or do, but it is what Jesus is and did.

8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9  Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV)

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 (KJV)

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. Galatians 2:16 (KJV)

As sure as the promise was given to the Hebrew followers of God, so in the land of those living in Christ shall be found the same promise, “they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them”.
