Doulos

For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”  Mark 10:45 MEV

“Doulos” is a word that refers to a “love slave,” a servant that was offered freedom but because of his love for his master chose to stay in servitude.

The love slave was then brought to the door post of the house and an awl was driven though his ear to signify his choice to serve both the master and His house.

Jesus gave His life to set us free. Free from the bondage of the fear of death and the grip of sin.

How shall we ever repay Him? Should it not be with the heart and service of a “doulos”? Should we not respond to His love and live a life of loving obedience, doing those things that please Him?

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20 MEV

You were bought at a price. Do not be the servants of men. 1 Corinthians 7:23 MEV
